Singapore (VNA) – The US appreciates Singapore’s hosting of theupcoming summit between US President Donald Trump and Democratic People’sRepublic of Korea leader Kim Jong-un slated for June 12.
Singapore’s Foreign Ministry said in a press release on June 6 thatForeign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeoand National Security Advisor John Bolton during his working visit toWashington, and during the meetings, the two US officials expressedappreciation for Singapore’s hosting of the summit.
Balakrishnan welcomed the upcoming visit of President Trump and the DPRKleader to Singapore and expressed his hope that their meeting will contributeto peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula.
On June 5, the White House announced that the US-DPRK summit would takeplace at the Capella Hotel in Sentosa, Singapore.
The US, the DPRK and Singapore are racing to complete the finalpreparations to ensure the historic meeting will go smoothly.
The US State Department also said at a regular press briefing on June 5that the US would not pay for DPRK officials’ accommodations in Singaporeduring the summit.
The department’s spokesperson Heather Nauert refused to discuss thepossibility that President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in will join inthe meeting between Trump and Kim in Singapore.
She only confirmed that the US is constantly in conversation with thegovernments of the RoK and Japan.-VNA
