Hanoi (VNA) –Algeria is currently the fourth biggest export market of Vietnam in Africa,following South Africa, Ghana, and Egypt.
Vietnam’s shipments to this African nation wereestimated at 271.42 million USD in 2016, up 16 percent year on year.
Among the main export items, 64,050 tonnes ofcoffee worth 112.96 million USD were sold to Algeria, up 74 percent in volumeand 64 percent in value. About 40,097 tonnes of rice were exported to bringhome 15.36 million USD, rising 6 percent in volume and 3 percent in value.
Other commodities seeing an increase inshipments were pepper, steel, aquatic products, computers, electronic productsand components, machinery and spare parts.
Meanwhile, the export turnover of telephones andcomponents fell by 26 percent to 76.86 million USD.
Last year, Vietnam’s trade office in Algeriaorganised an array of trade promotion activities, including five workshops onbilateral trade potential. It also assisted two delegations of Vietnamesebusinesses to attend international fairs and stepped up communicationactivities there such as publishing business news bulletins in French.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade also sentstaff members to Algeria to work with local ministries and agencies, seekingways to boost cooperation in the time ahead.
To strengthen trade ties and also to mark 55years of the countries’ diplomatic relationship, Vietnam will work harder topromote bilateral trade in 2017 such as through helping enterprises toparticipate in the Algiers International Fair and holding four businessseminars on economic and trade partnership potential. -VNA
