Algeria’s lower house speaker hopes for stronger ties with Vietnam

Algeria and Vietnam should press ahead with developing their friendship and multi-faceted cooperation which has yet to match potential and aspirations, a senior legislator of Algeria said.
Algiers​ (VNA) – Algeria and Vietnam should pressahead with developing their friendship and multi-faceted cooperation which hasyet to match potential and aspirations, Speaker of the People’s NationalAssembly of Algeria Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa said.

At a meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador toAlgeria Pham Quoc Tru on January 18, Khelifa expressed his admiration for theVietnamese people’s undaunted fight against colonialism and imperialism to gainand protect national independence, saying they set a shining example forvictims of oppression around the world.

He also had a high opinion of the country’ssocio-economic development attainments in recent years.

Highlighting their traditional relations, hesaid Vietnam was one of the first countries to recognise and set up diplomaticties with Algeria after the African nation gained independence in 1962.

They have continually been united, supportedeach other and closely coordinated in many international and regional issues.Bilateral cooperation has enjoyed strides in various spheres, including thepartnership between the two parliaments, he added.

The parliaments should increase cooperation,exchanges, experience sharing and consultation about internal and externalaffairs, Khelifa said, asking Tru to convey his New Year greetings to theChairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly.

For his part, Ambassador Tru renewed that hiscountry treasures the time-honoured amity and all-round cooperation withAlgeria and wants to lift that relationship to a new height.

He pledged all efforts during his tenure tocontribute to bilateral connections.-VNA
