Hanoi (VNA) – A seminar discussing the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G technology in digital transformation, green transition, and digital economic development took place in Hanoi on May 29, as part of the Vietnam - Asia DX Summit 2024.

Nguyen Thanh Hai, Director of the centre for network strategy and technology innovation under the Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel), affirmed that not only does 5G technology help businesses go digital more efficiently, but also drive sustainable green transformation.

According to research from the National Institute of Information and Communications Strategy, by 2025, 5G could make up approximately 7.34% of Vietnam's GDP growth.

Nguyen Anh Cuong, head of the economic office under the Ministry of Information and Communications’ Vietnam Telecommunications Authority, noted the ministry’ theme for its 2024 activities revolves around popularising digital infrastructure and innovative digital applications for digital economic development. Accordingly, alongside the successful auction of two frequency bands for 5G deployment, telecom providers are focusing on commercialising the technology.

The ministry has established legal frameworks and standards for 5G in Vietnam, while providing guidelines for spectrum allocation to enable more efficient implementation by enterprises. In the near future, it will develop a project to set up a 5G innovation and creativity centre and build a national 5G lab.

Nguyen Xuan Hoai, Director of the Vietnam AI Academy, held that AI application solutions bring about many development opportunities for firms, especially small- and medium-sized ones. Currently, AI technology tools have been applied across various sectors such as customer care, marketing, and human resources management, while generative AI and AI-based products like ChatGPT are certainly the trend in the near future, he said./.
