- Party General Secretary and State President To Lam visited officials, soldiers and islanders in Con Co island district of the central province of Quang Tri on October 16.
Established in October 2004, the island district, the only of its kind in the six north-central localities, is 13 nautical miles from the mainland, with an area of 230 hectares, 60% of which is natural forest. It has a particularly important position in national defence and security, serving as the southern gateway to the Gulf of Tonkin, and an international aviation and maritime gateway. Read full story
-Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 16 requested ministries, sectors, branches, and localities to act on their initiative to speed up the construction of transport projects in the Mekong Delta, as expressways have an important role to play in the region’s rapid and sustainable development.
Chairing a conference in Can Tho city to seek solutions to removing roadblocks for transport infrastructure projects in the region, the Government leader ordered competent sides to have a substantive response to the 500-day emulation campaign to complete the expressway building and strive to fulfill some 600 kilometres running through the region by the end of 2025. - As many as 385 photos featuring standout activities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels and their organisations for the 2019-2024 period were showcased at an exhibition that opened in Hanoi on October 16 to welcome the 10th National Congress of the VFF.

-The Vietnamese Embassy and the union of Vietnamese associations in Japan are exerting citizen protection efforts after two Vietnamese workers went missing while fishing off the coast of Ibaraki Prefecture on October 12.

-The General Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health has called for proactive measures to detect and prevent the entry of Marburg virus disease, a highly contagious Ebola-like virus, into Vietnam.
According to the department, as of October 10, Rwanda in East Africa had recorded 58 cases of Marburg virus infection, with 13 deaths. Notably, 70% of the cases involved healthcare workers. Read full story

-The Vietnamese sugar industry has led the region in sugar productivity for the first time, according to the Vietnam Sugarcane and Sugar Association (VSSA).
Thanks to the promotion of mechanisation in production such as land preparation, harvesting, spraying pesticides, technologies of the Fourth Industry Revolution (Industry 4.0) to farming, along with the application of trade defence measures, the sugar industry has recorded a significant growth, it said. - Many positive signs have been recorded in foreign trade, investment attraction, industrial production, and purchasing power during the first nine months of 2024, enhancing the confidence that this year’s GDP growth target of 7% is within reach.
Nguyen Dinh Muoi, Deputy General Director of the Vina T&T Import Export Service Trading Co. Ltd, said that so far this year, his company’s export revenue has risen by over 25% from a year earlier. Many products such as frozen durian, pomelo, and mango are currently exports to the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.
