44th OANA Executive Board Meeting to be held on April 18-20 in Hanoi

The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) will host the 44th Meeting of the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) Executive Board in Hanoi from April 18-20, under the theme of “For a professional and innovative journalism”.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) will host the 44th Meeting of the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) ExecutiveBoard in Hanoi from April 18-20, under the theme of “For a professional and innovativejournalism”.

VNA’s hosting of the event affirms the roleof the national news agency at the region’s prestigious and effectivelyoperating multilateral press forum.

The 44th OANA Executive BoardMeeting will focus on three main contents, including strategies of newsagencies in response to changes in information use behaviours which focus onvideo clips and the YouToube platform; fake news and fact-checking; and regainingtrust for mainstream news.

OANA was established in Bangkok, Thailand,on December 22, 1961, as an initiative of the United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

At present, OANA brings together 44 newsagencies from 35 countries. OANA members are responsible for two-thirds ofinformation circulated throughout the world. Every day, OANA member newsagencies publish around 200 news stories, photos and video clips on the OANAwebsite at http://www.oananews.org/.

The organisation holds its general assemblyevery three years to select an Executive Board with 13 member news agencies.The Vietnam News Agency is a member of the 2016-2019 Executive Board.

OANA organises itsExecutive Board meeting annually under the host of an Executive Board member ona rotary basis. The meeting provides a venue for leaders of news agencies to shareexperience, update new journalism development trends in the world and discussmeasures to consolidate professional cooperation.-VNA

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi
