Hanoi (VNA) – The 14th National Assembly (NA) passed a resolution on the number of members of the new NA Standing Committee early during the second day of its first session on July 21.

Under the resolution, which was supported by 96.15 percent of NA deputies, the 14th NA Standing Committee will have 18 members, comprising the NA Chair, four Vice Chairs and 13 members.

Following the vote, the 13th NA Standing Committee submitted to the NA a list of candidates for the positions of NA Chair, Vice Chairs and members of the NA Standing Committee, the 14 th tenure.

Accordingly, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Chairwoman of the 13th legislature, was introduced as head of the 14 th NA.

The four candidates for the Vice Chair position are Phung Quoc Hien, Uong Chu Luu, Tong Thi Phong, and General Do Ba Ty, who were all Vice Chairmen of the 13th NA.

A list of 13 candidates for the position of the NA Standing Committee member was also presented during the morning session.

The law-makers then discussed in groups the personnel proposals. In the afternoon, they will cast secrete ballots to elect the above-mentioned posts.

During its first session, the 14th NA is also scheduled to elect the Chair of the NA Ethnic Council, the heads of NA committees, and the NA Secretary General.

The lawmakers will also elect the President and Vice President of the State, the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court and the State Auditor General.

They will also decide on the apparatus of the government, approve the appointment of Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers and other government members, Vice Chairs and members of the National Defence and Security Council.

The remaining days will be spent deciding on the country’s key issues, including the government’s report on socio-economic development and State budget for the first half of this year, solutions to the socio-economic development and State budget for the second half of this year, approval of the 2014 State budget estimate and the NA’s resolutions on the programme on building laws and ordinances, the NA’s supervision programme for 2017 and the establishment of specialised inspection groups.-VNA
