Hanoi (VNA) – Thousands ofyoung people nationwide are leaving home to join the army for their militaryservice in late February.
Ceremonies to see off newly recruitedsoldiers for Military Zone 7 were held on February 21 morning in variouslocalities in Ho Chi Minh City; the southern provinces of Dong Nai, Binh Duong,Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, and Binh Thuan; and the CentralHighlands province of Lam Dong.
Sen. Lt. Gen. Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chiefof the General Staff of Vietnam People’s Army attended a ceremony in HCM City’sBinh Chanh district.
At a ceremony held in Can Giuoc district ofthe Mekong Delta province of Long An on February 21, new recruit Nguyen DucThien said he felt proud to follow the path of older generations and is eagerto fulfil his duty as a citizen to the motherland.
To date, 15 of the province’s localities havecompleted the handover of all newly conscripted soldiers to the army.
The same day, send-off ceremonies werearranged in the central provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri,and Thua Thien-Hue, which are under the Military Zone 4.
In Vietnam, two-year military service iscompulsory for young men aged between 18 and 25 years old, while women canvolunteer. –VNA
