Workshop suggests energy efficiency solutions for HCM City

HCM City (VNA) – Someenergy efficiency solutions were shared at a workshop in Ho Chi Minh City onJuly 21, expected to help the southern economic hub achieve green growth andsustainable development in the near future.

Deputy Director of the municipalDepartment of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thi Kim Ngoc said HCM City is aneconomic and financial hub of Vietnam and also home to a large number ofhigh-rises. Together with economic growth, energy demand has been growing fastrecently.

The industry and trade sector of HCMCity is working to promote efficient energy use in every social aspect andreduce energy intensity in economic sectors. In particular, it will boost the applicationof energy saving solutions at energy-intensive establishments and industriestowards the goal of green growth and sustainable development, she noted.

James Gilman, Director ofReconciliation and Inclusive Development Office at USAID, said the economy of Vietnamis expanding strongly and now has growing demand for energy.

Developing clean and renewableenergy, together with applying energy saving technologies and solutions, willhelp reduce input costs and increase efficiency for businesses and the economyas a whole. Besides, it is also an urgent issue in not only Vietnam but alsomany other countries, he went on.

He affirmed USAID pledges tocoordinate with Vietnam to boost clean and renewable energy sources, addingthat it will assist the country’s ministries, sectors and businesses to build asustainable energy industry for green growth and environmental protection.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, HCM City consumes about 25 billion kWh of electricity eachyear, accounting for some 10% of the total nationwide.

The workshop was part of the InternationalExhibition on Electrical Technology and Equipment - Vietnam ETE 2022, andthe International Exhibition on Products, Technologies of Energy Saving andGreen Power - Enertec Expo 2022 that are underway in HCM City./.
