An international workshop on environmental risk assessment and human health opened in the central province of Binh Dinh on December 19, aiming to seek solutions to environmental management in Vietnam.

Binh Dinh(VNA) – An international workshop on environmental risk assessment and human healthopened in the central province of Binh Dinh on December 19, aiming to seeksolutions to environmental management in Vietnam. 

Scientists from the US, Australia, Japan, Singapore and Vietnam have beenfocusing discussions on 20 topics during the thee-day event, which was arrangedby the International Center of Interdisciplinary ScienceEducation (ICISE)and the Meet Vietnam Association.

Prof. Ross Smith,Chairman of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, said the workshop looked into solutions toenvironmental issues and human resources development to serve future environmentalmanagement.

Theworkshop heard that Vietnam is facing environmental issues, especially inindustrial parks and urban areas. The slow development of sciences for environmentalimpact assessment has restrained understanding about the effects of pollutantson the environment, making it difficult to develop standards and manage theenvironment.

Dr. Kuan Chun Lee, fromthe Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry in Asia Pacific, underlined the need to promotescientific researches on and application of research results in environmentalmanagement.

Theevent has provided a good chance for Vietnam to learn environmental managementexperiences shared by representatives from leading universities in the world, Japan,the US Departmentof Environment, and the Australian Ministry of Energy andEnvironment.

The Institute forInterdisciplinary Research in Science and Education (IFIRSE) underthe International Center of Interdisciplinary Science Education (ICISE) has plannedto build a cooperation programme on research and training with Vietnam in a bidto help the country better manage the environment.-VNA
