Hau Giang (VNA) –
A workshop was heldin the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang to help farmers with the applicationof smart agriculture.

Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee LeTien Chau said the workshop is a practical activity that looks to restructuringthe agriculture sector towards sustainable development; the construction of newrural areas; and the prioritisation of investment in seafood, fruits and vegetables,rice, and high-tech agriculture.

It also aims to seek ways to help Hau Giang transformfrom agrochemical to organic and smart agriculture, as well as help farmers andbusinesses alter their mindsets to save production costs and increase thequality of products.

In 2019, Hau Giang will continue promoting greeneconomy and smart agriculture, Chau said, adding that the province will supportscientists, institutes, universities, and businesses in the field.

Associate Professor, PhD Nguyen Duy Can from theFaculty of Rural Development of Can Tho University, said Hau Giang has the potentialto apply high technology in multiple sectors such as rice production, basa fishbreeding, and the combined cultivation of aquaculture and flowers orvegetables.

Participants also discussed the development ofagriculture models in association with tourism, as well as how to strengthenconnectivity between farmers, businesses, scientists, managers, and bankers. –VNA
