Washington DC (VNA) – A workshopto improve the performance of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Vietnamhas taken place at the Vietnamese House in Washington DC.
The workshop, held on December 4, introducedVietnam’s current affairs and its priorities in development and cooperation forthe goal of poverty reduction and sustainable growth.
Representatives from NGOs operating inVietnam, businesses and individuals with significant contributions to Vietnam –US relations attended the event.
On the occasion, the Vietnam – US Society, amember of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the US Institutefor Global Engagement signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation for2017 – 2022.
Facing various challenges, including climatechange impacts, war consequences, and natural disasters, Vietnam, with itslimited resources, is in need of foreign support, particularly from NGOs.
There are more than 500 foreign NGOs workingfrequently in Vietnam. They disburse funds worth about 300 million USD toVietnam on a yearly basis, one third of which come from US NGOs. They also offertraining and technical transfers to local partners.
The VUFO, which is in charge of NGOs’activities in Vietnam, said it is committed to creating the best conditionspossible for foreign NGOs and donors.-VNA
