The houses are being built with a budgetworth 6.4 billion VND (about 275,700 USD).
It is part of activities in response tothis year’s Month for Humanitarian Activities, which is designed to lastthroughout May.
The People’s Committee of Ung Hoa districtand the Hanoi Red Cross Association signed a cooperation agreement on the replacementof dilapidated houses in the district in December 2018. Under the agreement,the Hanoi Red Cross and its affiliate allocated more than 3.8 billion VND (163,700USD) to build 123 houses.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the HanoiRed Cross Association Nguyen Sy Truong said that Ung Hoa is the first localityof Hanoi to be chosen for the project to replace decrepit houses.
The project is hoped to contribute to thenational target programme of building new-style rural areas, ensuring socialwelfare, and facilitating the economic development of poor people, he added.
Nguyen Thi Nen, one of the project’sbeneficiaries, said that the support from donors towards building new houses forlocal people reflects the country’s tradition of helping those in need to easetheir difficulties. –VNA
