The Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) recently held a minute’s silence in memory of Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang who passed away on September 21 in Hanoi.

Geneva (VNA) – The Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual PropertyOrganisation (WIPO) recently held a minute’s silence in memory of VietnamesePresident Tran Dai Quang who passed away on September 21 in Hanoi.

Before the 58th Series of Meetings of the WIPO Assemblies,which opened in Geneva, Switzerland on September 24, WIPO Director GeneralFrancis Gurry announced the death of the Vietnamese head of State and extendeddeep condolences to the bereaved family, and the Government and people ofVietnam.

He recalled his meeting with President Tran Dai Quang inMarch 2017 during his trip to Vietnam. At the meeting, the President vowed tocreate optimal conditions for the growth of the intellectual property system,which contributes to Vietnam’s socio-economic development.

Ambassador Duong Chi Dung, head of Vietnam’s permanentmission to the United Nations, other international organisations in Geneva andChairman of the WIPO Assemblies for 2018-2019, expressed thanks to internationalfriends for their condolences over the passing away of President Tran Dai Quang.

In their speeches, delegates of WIPO Assemblies expressedtheir profound condolences to the Government and people of Vietnam on thePresident’s passing.

President Tran Dai Quang passed away at 10:05am onSeptember 21 in Hanoi at the age of 62 due to serious illness. He was electedState President at the 11th session of the 13th National Assembly on April 2,2016.-VNA
