– A ceremony to hand over the World Health Organisation (WHO) Guidelines on Integrated Care for Older People (ICOPE) to the Vietnamese Health Ministry was held in Hanoi on October 1, in response to International Day for Older Persons (October 1).

Speaking at the event, Deputy Health Minister Do Xuan Tuyen said the book aims to help medical staff support older people’s intrinsic capacity and care for their health in the most comprehensive way in accordance with the WHO’s global action strategy on aging and health care.

He asked the General Office for Population and Family Planning to continue working closely with the WHO to disseminate contents of the book to medical and population staff, especially those at the grassroots level.

The ICOPE was released in October 2017 with 13 recommendations to build and adopt integrated health care measures for the elderly in the community.

WHO Chief Representative in Vietnam Kidong Park said following the event, the WHO and the Health Ministry will hold training courses for lecturers and medical staff at the communal level in the field.

Contents of the book in Vietnamese and English languages could be downloaded from a software in the near future./.
