Berlin (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Germany on September 23 helda webinar on the two countries’ relations, on the 45th anniversaryof bilateral diplomatic ties (September 23).
Speaking at the event,Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu said that in 2020 when the COVID-19 breaks out acrossthe world, many celebration programmes and activities cannot be organised, but thebilateral partnership has been bolstered as the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreementtakes effect.
The two countries havealso coordinated closely at regional and multilateral forums when Vietnam assumesthe Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2020 and Germany is the Chair of the EuropeanUnion in the second half of the year, he added.
Dinh Toan Thang,Director General of the Europe Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,expressed his belief that with existing cooperation mechanisms, especially theVietnam-Germany Strategic Plan of Action for 2019-2021, the two countries willcontinue coordinating closely to boost multifaceted collaboration andcontribute more to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the regionsand the world.
Petra Sigmund,Director General for East Asia, Southeast Asia and Pacific under the GermanFederal Foreign Office, said that the German Government recently adopted PolicyGuidelines for the Indo-Pacific, which appreciate the role of ASEAN in theregion.
Germany wants to stepup cooperation with all countries in the region to promote global tradeliberalisation, and ensure security and safety in the region based oninternational law.
She also said Vietnamis an attractive destination for European investors, particularly in thecontext that the region’s enterprises are shifting their investments toSoutheast Asia.
The view was alsoshared by Marko Walde, ChiefRepresentative of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam.
He affirmed that theVietnamese Government is offering more open and transparent mechanisms forforeign investors, thus helping them conduct business and investment activitiesin Vietnam easily./.
