Hanoi (VNA)– The World Bank stands ready to support and cooperate with Vietnam in manyspheres like climate change response and renewable energy development, said WBManaging Director of Operations Axel van Trotsenburg on November4.
Atan online working session with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister PhamBinh Minh, Trotsenburg affirmed that therelationship between Vietnam and the WB is developing fruitfully, saying thebank is willing to engage in flexible exchanges amidst COVID-19 to further boostthe links.
The WBleader expressed his sympathies over the huge losses caused by recent floods in Vietnam’scentral region, and lauded the country’s efforts in containing the pandemic whilemaintaining economic growth.
For hispart, Minh said Vietnam treasures the valuable and effective support of the WBand Trotsenburg himself to Vietnamover the past time.
TheVietnamese Government always considers the bank an important developmentpartner, he said, adding that many WB-funded projects and policy consultationshave significantly contributed to the national socio-economic development.
Minh calledon the WB to continue its development financial aid and accompany Vietnam inpolicy and development orientation making in the time ahead, particularly inbuilding the socio-economic development plan and the mid-term public investmentplan for 2021-2025.
Appreciatingthe bank’s non-refundable aid worth 6.2 million USD for Vietnam in the COVID-19combat, the official suggested it to give more resources to the country in thisregard.
He alsoproposed the WB closely coordinate with Vietnamese ministries and agencies to remove bottlenecks in the disbursement of the loans from the bank and other donorsin Vietnam./.
