Hanoi (VNA) - Ousmane Dione will assume the position of Country Director for the World Bank (WB) in Vietnam from September 12, the WB announced on September 9.
According to the bank, Ousmane Dione, a Senegalese national, joined the WB as Water Resources Management Specialist in 2000. He has since held a number of leadership and operational positions in Africa, South Asia, Latin America, East Asia and the Pacific Regions.
His most recent post was Practice Manager for East Asia and the Pacific Region in the Water Global Practice, based in Manila, Philippines.
In his new position, Ousmane’s top three priorities will be managing Vietnam’s smooth IDA graduation; continuing to strengthen the partnership and close cooperation with Government of Vietnam and deepening the World Bank’s subnational engagements; and working closely with the Vietnamese Government and development partners to carry forward the vision and recommendations of the Vietnam 2035 report.
Ousmane Dione’s predecessor – Victoria Kwakwa worked as WB Country Director in Vietnam for seven years. She was appointed as the bank’s Regional Vice President for East Asia and Pacific on April 15.-VNA
