 Hanoi (VNA) – TheVung Ang II thermal power build-operate-transfer (BOT) project agreement wasinked between the General Directorate of Energy (GDE) of the Ministry ofIndustry and Trade and the Vung Ang II thermal power joint stock company onJanuary 16 in Hanoi.

The 1,200 MW plant consists oftwo 600MW generators, with the first turbine group to be put in operation in2021 while the other one will become operational one year after.

The 2.2 billion USD project willsupply electricity for economic development in the northern region, ensuringnational electricity security.

The GDE will support the investorin preparing procedures on investment licence and arranging finance.

Apart from the Vung Ang IIthermal power BOT plant, the GDE is also involved with 17 other thermal powerBOT projects with total capacity of 23,000 MW.

The same day, Minister ofIndustry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh handed over the project agreement to the JapaneseBOT investor Mitsubishi on the occasion of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’svisit to Vietnam.-VNA
