Seoul (VNA) – The Vu A Dinh scholarship fund, established in 1999, aimsto support ethnic minority students from poor families who achieve outstandingacademic performances, said former State Vice President and Chairwoman of thefund Truong My Hoa.
At a meeting with representatives from the Vietnamese community in the Republicof Korea (RoK) on March 10 to mobilise support for the fund, Hoa noted thatacademic investment for children is crucial, particularly those from ethnic minoritygroups.
Some 5,000 scholarships are presented to the needy every year, helping themovercome difficulties and contribute to society, she added.
At the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the RoK Nguyen Vu Tu underlined thesound relations between Vietnam and the RoK in the past 25 years, particularlycooperation in education and people-to-people exchange.
He said that thereare 50,000 Vietnamese students studying in the East Asian nation and the figureis expected to rise.
Meanwhile, representatives from the Vietnamese organisations in the RoKintroduced their activities to support the needy in the homeland and vowed tosupport the impoverished students.-VNA
