Hanoi (VNA) – Many constituents nationwide were present at polling stations before 7am on May 22 to elect deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2016-2020 tenure.
In 30 districts and towns of Hanoi, 4,874 polling stations in 10 constituencies were crowded with voters.
As a voter of Giang Vo ward, Ba Dinh district, Minister of Public Security To Lam delightedly expressed his belief that all voters will raise their sense of responsibility to elect the most outstanding candidates who represent the strong will, aspirations and right to mastery of the people in the NA and the People’s Councils.
In the polling station No.2 of Khuong Trung ward, Thanh Xuan district, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Dinh The Huynh was the first to cast ballot, followed by ex-revolutionaries, the elderly and others.
Politburo member and Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai also came to the polling station No.4 of Lang Ha ward, Dong Da district to exercise his citizen right and duty. He said that he hopes constituents will choose the most capable and moral people to the legislature and all-level People’s Councils.
As of 8:10am, over 70 percent of the city’s public security officers fulfilled their citizens’ right via ballot casting.
In Ho Chi Minh City, as many as 3,211 polling stations in all districts opened at 7am.
Before the election, the city convened 112 public meetings with NA candidates and 170 meetings with those standing for election to the municipal People’s Council.
Joining the nationwide election atmosphere, more than 682,000 constituents in the central hub of Da Nang eagerly went to the polls. Most of them were present at polling stations very early to exercise their citizen right and duty.
Meanwhile, voters Kim Lien commune, Nam Dan district, the central province of Nghe An - the native land of President Ho Chi Minh, cast their votes at nine polling stations decorated with flags and flowers.
In the northern midland province of Phu Tho, thousands of voters among a total 145,000 screened the list of 10 NA candidates, 130 for the provincial People’s Council, 804 for the district People’s Council and 12,153 for the communal People’s Council.
In the Central Highlands, every corner of villages, communes and remote and border areas is adorned with flags, flowers, banners and slogans in celebration of the general election – a big festival of the people nationwide.
As of 8am, more than 48 percent of 4 million voters from ethnic groups in the region cast their ballots.
On behalf of the Central Highlands constituents, Ami San from Ale A village, Ea Tam ward, Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province expressed her wish that the elected people will have concrete policies and actions to preserve the traditional culture of ethnic minority people as well as improve their living conditions.
In polling stations of public security, military, border guard units in the southern province of Hau Giang’s rural areas, the voting started at 5am.
Similar atmosphere is also ongoing in the northern provinces of Cao Bang, Yen Bai, Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen, Ha Nam and the central provinces of Quang Tri and Binh Dinh, among others.
The election is due to last till 7pm the same day.-VNA
