The meeting withPrensa Latina President Luis Enrique Gonzalez came during VNA DirectorGeneral Nguyen Duc Loi’s visit to Cuba from May 30 – June 3 to seekstronger cooperation between the two news agencies.
Gonzalezagreed to welcome more students assigned by the VNA to his agency, andtrain them in reporting and editing skills for periods up to 6 months.
He told Loi that his agency is paying attention to audio-visual and other multimedia forms.
He pledged to review and fully realise cooperation agreements between the both sides.
Loi, in his turn, said VNA is improving the quality of its coverageon the way to becoming a multimedia group in its role as theGovernment’s mainstream and trustworthy information source.
Though VNA television channel, known as Vnews, became active three yearsago, it has grown into a popular and trustworthy broadcast channel inVietnam, Loi said, adding that VNA plans to launch a radio channel inthe coming time.
The guest also thanked Prensa Latina forhelping VNA print and publish the Vietnam Pictorial publication in Cubaand Latin America, as well as for supporting the VNA bureau in thecountry.
Earlier, the Vietnamese delegation was received byhead of the Party Central Committee’s Ideology Commission, RolandoAlfonso Borges, who highly valued the partnership between the two newsagencies.
He proposed the two sides continue to share experience,effectively serving dissemination in each nation’s socialist-orientedconstruction and development.
Director General Loi briefed thehost of Vietnam’s recent political and socio-economic development,especially tensions in the East Sea after China illegally deployed itsdrilling rig and various ships to operate in the exclusive economic zoneand continental shelf of Vietnam.
He affirmed the consistentpolicy of the Vietnamese Party, State and Government of seeking peacefulmeasures with avoidance of unfortunate conflicts while resolutelysafeguarding the country’s sacred sovereignty.
During the visit,the delegation had working sessions with the leading board of the Cubandomestic news agency (AIN), during which the two sides agreed tocontinue boosting cooperation and news sharing under signed bilateralagreements.
The AIN pledged to continue providing news on Cuba, especially the country’s socio-economic development in localities.
AINGeneral Director Edda Garces proposed the VNA provide photo news onpolitical, economic and social activities as well as the land and peopleof Vietnam.
The VNA delegation also visited and laid flowers atthe Ernesto Che Guevara memorial site in central Villa Clara provinceand some historically and culturally significant places in Havana andMatanzas province.-VNA
