The scholarships are provided by the Singaporean government.
Of the 17 recipients, 14 come from Hanoi and the remaining three from Ho Chi Minh City.
First launched in 1996, the ASEAN secondary scholarships are granted toaround 20-25 students every year. So far, about 270 Vietnamese studentshave been awarded this scholarship, Singaporean Ambassador Simon Wongtold a Vietnam News Agency reporter on the sidelines of the awardceremony in Hanoi on October 22.
He said the prospect for education cooperation between Singapore andVietnam is very promising as Vietnamese people are very conscious aboutthe importance of education.
Besides the ASEAN scholarship programme, Singaporean government alsoprovides A-Star scholarships for Vietnamese undergraduates to study inSingapore, he added.
So far this year, the Singaporean government has provided 50 scholarships of different types to Vietnamese students./.
