Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham BinhMinh, who is also Chairman of the Vietnam-Cambodia CooperationSub-committee, and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong, who alsoacts as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation andChairman of the Cambodia-Vietnam Cooperation Sub-committee, co-chairedthe meeting.
The two sides reviewed theimplementation of agreements reached at the 11 th meeting of thecommittee. They noted with pleasure that under the close guidance of thetwo countries’ high-ranking leaders, their friendship and comprehensivecooperation had been consolidated and developed, bringing practicalresults for both.
Economic, trade and investmentcooperation posted significant progress, with two-way trade reachingover 1.8 billion USD in 2010, and Vietnam had become one of Cambodia’s major investors.
The participants discussed awide range of issues and unanimously agreed on ways to strengthencooperation in the future for the benefit of the people of the twonations.
They reiterated their resolve to accomplishland border demarcation and marker planting by the end of 2012 asagreed by the two countries’ high-ranking leaders, in order to build apeaceful and stable common borderline.
The two sideswill also continue their coordination in the search and repatriation ofremains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died during wars inCambodia .
They reaffirmed the principle thatstrictly prohibited hostile forces to use the territory of one countryto harass the security of the other and reached consensus on the earlysigning of an extradition pact.
Vietnam andCambodia will work together to ensure legitimate rights for overseaspeople of each country, the meeting was heard.
Thetwo sides agreed on the significance of the protection and sustainableuse of water resource of the Mekong river, further cooperation withcountries in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, the Mekong River Commission,the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle, theCambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam group, the Association of Southeast AsianNations (ASEAN), the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and other internationalforums.
Closing the meeting, Foreign Minister Minhand Deputy PM Hor Namhong signed the minutes of the meeting, which setthe venue for the 13 th meeting of the committee in Cambodia in 2012./.
