Hanoi (VNA) – The second turbine of the Vinh Tan 4 thermal power plantbegan generating electricity for the national grid on October 3, nearly threemonths after the launch of the first one, according to the Electricity ofVietnam (EVN) group.

TheVinh Tan thermal power plant project is invested by the EVN and was listed inthe urgent constructions in 2013-2020 by the Prime Minister.

Itis one of the five thermal power plants of the Vinh Tan Power Station in TuyPhong district in the southern province of Binh Thuan, 250 km north of Ho ChiMinh City.

Theplant has two turbines with a combined capacity of 1,200 MW and was built at acost of 36 trillion VND (1.58 billion USD).

Infull operation, it is expected to generate about 7.2 billion kWh each year. Itis the first large-scale coal-fueled thermal power plant in Vietnam using thesupercritical steam generator.

Theplant is also hoped to contribute to socio-economic development in the SouthCentral Region and raise the stability and economic operation of the nationalgrid.-VNA
