Nghe An (VNA)– The Vinh Orange-Nghe An Fair 2017 opened in the central province of Nghe Anon December 28, aiming to promote locally-grown oranges and help customers recognisehigh quality products.
Nghe An has rathersevere weather with strong sunshine, frequent rains, dry wind and numerousstorms and floods. In return, the locality is the favourable land for orange treewith typical sweet and fresh taste.
Vinh orange has long beenwell-known domestically and globally. It was exported to East Europeancountries and the former Soviet Union (Russia now) since the 1960s.
According to Tran QuocThanh, Director of the provincial Department of Science and Technology, Vinhorange has received geographical indication protection and become a nationalproperty.
Since earning thegeographical indication in 2007, the product’s value was raised sharply, Thanhsaid. However, he pointed to a number of problems facing the product, includingfrequent crop loss and fake products.
In order to deal withthe issues, the provincial People’s Committee directed departments and sectorsto strengthen the management of product quality, market and trademark promotion,thus preserving and developing the product.
The fair will be rununtil December 30, during which a number of events will be held, including aconference for businesses, cooperatives, farmers, organisations, and treesapling suppliers.-VNA
