The Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Co. (Vinamilk) has received 400out of a total of 1,000 dairy cows it plans to import from Australiathis month.
It will import a further 2,000 cows — 400 from Australia and 1,600 from the US.
Vinamilkis sinking a lot of money into developing its own dairy farms in whatis a key long-term strategy to reduce dependence on milk imports amidglobal price volatility.
As of April Vinamilk has nine dairyfarms in Tuyen Quang, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Binh Dinh, and Lam Dong. Everyday the farms and farmers around the country provide the company 650tonnes of fresh milk for processing.-VNA
