Ba Ria – Vung Tau (VNA) – Vietsovpetro, a joint Vietnamese-Russian enterprise for oil and gas exploration, put into operation on December 7 the ThTC-02 oil rig in the Tho Trang (White Rabbit) oil field offshore the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

The facility, which started operation one month and a half ahead of schedule, is in a 50m-deep water area to the south of the Tho Trang oil field. The rig, designed to accommodate 12 wells, has a capacity of 6,000 tonnes of oil per day and night.

The platform, one of the projects to welcome the 12th National Party Congress, has a total investment of 64.2 million USD, of which the oil rig costs 47.5 million USD, and the rest is for the underwater pipeline system.

Deputy Director General of the Vietsovpetro Tran Xuan Hoang said the rig has met the quality requirements under the DNV International Accreditation Standards.

With three wells currently operating, the ThTC-02 structure pumps an average 1,100 tonnes of oil a day, making up 7.5 percent of the company’s total output.

General Director of the Vietsovpetro Tu Thanh Nghia said the facility is expected to help the company fulfil its targets from now to 2020.-VNA
