VietShrimp 2023 opens in Can Tho

The 4th Vietnam International Shrimp Industry Technology Expo (VietShrimp 2023) kicked off in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on April 12, featuring 200 pavilions of 150 local and foreign businesses and organisations.

Can Tho (VNA) – The 4th Vietnam International Shrimp Industry TechnologyExpo (VietShrimp2023) kicked off in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on April 12, featuring 200pavilions of 150 local and foreign businesses and organisations.

On display are breeds, feed, medicine, vaccine products and technologies serving the shrimp industry. Exhibitors are operating in the fields related to the aquaculture sectorin general and the shrimp industry in particular.

Symposiums will be also held in the framework of the expo, offering a venue forfarmers, businesses, and experts to share experience and discuss orientationsfor developing the sector in the coming time, thus further improving the quality of  the shrimp production chain.

The shrimp industry has played an important role in Vietnam'sseafood export sector during the past five decades, making up 45-50% of the country’stotal annual aquatic export value.

Vietnam has become one of the leading shrimp exporters in theworld with an export value accounting for 13 - 14% of the global shrimp exportvalue. Last year, Vietnam raked in 4.3 billion USD from exporting shrimp,up 11% year-on-year. Vietnamese shrimp products have been sold at 108 markets.

The shrimp export turnover in 2023 is expected to reach 4.3 billion in 2023.  

According to Nguyen Thi Phuong Dung, Director of the Department of Science,Technology and International Cooperation under the Directorate of Fisheries, to overcomethe challenges facing the sector and realise the set goals, it is necessary tohave the active engagement of relevant parties in the value chain, thus reducingproduction costs, improving the quality and competitiveness for Vietnameseshrimp products.

Jointly organised by the Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFIS) andthe Directorate of Fisheries, VietShrimp 2023 will last until April 14./.
