Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s reserves of sea fish are estimated at approximately 4.2 million tonnes with various kinds of fish, many of which have high commercial value.
According to an overview of Vietnam’s maritime resources released by the Directorate of Fisheries, Vietnam’s sea is home to about 12,000 species and more than 20 ecosystems, particularly coral reefs, sea grass and mangrove forests.
Of the total species, there are 6,000 types of benthos, 2,435 types of fish - with over 100 of them can be sold in the market, 653 types of seaweed and 94 types of mangrove plants.
In the first eight months of 2016, 2 million tonnes of seafood was fished, up 1.1 percent over the same period last year.-VNA
