Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese embassy in the Czech Republic hosted a ceremony on September 6 celebrating the 71 st anniversary of National Day (September 2).

Addressing the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Truong Manh Son said Vietnam considers the Czech Republic a potential market and a gateway to enter the European Union.

The comprehensive development of bilateral ties is marked by high-level visits and widespread collaboration across the fields of politics, national defence, economy, trade and investment, he said, adding that nearly 60,000 Vietnamese nationals living in the Czech Republic serve as a bridge for bilateral ties.

Vice President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Miluse Horska highlighted new progress in bilateral ties over the past years, saying that it has expanded into science and education apart from the traditional fields of economy and trade.

Also on September 6, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macao also hosted a banquet on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Consul General Hoang Chi Trung recalled significant achievements that Vietnam has scored in the national construction, defence and development over the past 70 years, especially the recent 30 years since Doi Moi (renovation).

Vietnam always pursues the diplomatic policy of independence, self-reliance, peace and cooperation in an effort to diversify relations with all countries around the world, he said.

Chief Secretary for Administration of Hong Kong Carrie Lam, for her part, said both sides highly value the further strengthening of friendship and cooperation, as evidenced by a visit by Hong Kong officials and businesses to Vietnam last August and the upcoming visit to Hong Kong by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc this month.

On the occasion, the Argentina-Vietnam Cultural Institute (ICAV) in conjunction with the Vietnamese embassy and the National University of Lomas de Zamora of Argentina held a seminar on September 7 to gain an insight into Vietnam’s market.

In his speech, Professor Ezequiel Ramoneda, coordinator from the National University of La Plata’s Centre for Southeast Asian Studies, said policies during the renovation period have fueled the development of private economy, contributing to Vietnam’s economic growth.

Vietnam has become Argentina’s important trade partner, as Argentina’s exports to Vietnam increasing 20-fold compared to 2005 to 1.8 billion USD last year. Two-way trade surpassed 2.5 billion USD last year, up 34 percent from 2014.

ICAV President Poldi Sosa underlined the potential of cultural and tourism coordination with Vietnam, and shared her understanding of the Southeast Asian country.

Earlier on August 5, the Vietnamese embassy in Argentina and the Equilibrium Global media firm screened the film “Don’t burn” by Director Dang Nhat Minh at the University of CEMA.-VNA
