TheVietnamese Permanent Representative Mission to ASEAN (VPRM) hosted areception for the permanent representatives and ambassadors of ASEANmembers and partner countries in Jakarta , Indonesia, on Sept. 2.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Vu Dang Dung, Head of the VPRM,confirmed that the Vietnamese mission will, together with other ASEANcountries continue to promote the role of the Committee for PermanentRepresentatives (CPR) in order to enhance coordination and cooperationbetween ASEAN members. This will help to speed up the implementation ofthe ASEAN Charter and the creation of an ASEAN Community by 2015.
The mission is also taking active steps to prepare for Vietnam takingover the ASEAN Presidency in 2010, which will help to strengthenoverseas relations and raise ASEAN’s profile in the region and theworld at large, he added.
Also on the same day, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba held a ceremony tomark the 64th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Dayplus the 40 years since President Ho Chi Minh’s testament wasimplemented. The event was attended by Yadira Garcia Vera, a member ofthe Cuban Communist Party’s Political Bureau and the Minister for BasicIndustries.
Cuban Television also highlighted Vietnam ’s National Day and thecountry’s recent socio-economic achievements as well as broadcasting aninterview with Ambassador Vu Chi Cong on the effective cooperationshown between the two nations, especially in rice production, one ofthe Cuban government’s top priorities.
The Vietnamese Embassies in Algeria and South Africa also held ceremonies to mark the country’s historic events.
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika sent a message to PresidentNguyen Minh Triet to congratulate Vietnam on its recent successes andsaid he highly valued the traditional friendship and solidarity betweenthe two nations. He also expressed his wish to develop bilateraleconomic relations for the benefit of both countries./.
