Addressing the event, Vice President of the Vietnam War Veterans’Association Lieutenant General Phung Khac Dang called for furtherefforts from both sides, and said Vietnamese veterans appealed for moresupport from the US Government and Congress to heal old war wounds.
US veterans doing business should also cooperate with Vietnamese operating in the economic sphere, Dang suggested.
He raised the fact that Vietnam has found the remains of nearly1,000 US soldiers, while information provided by the US has alsohelped Vietnam identify the remains of about 1,150 Vietnamesesoldiers.
Rick Weidman, who serves as ExecutiveDirector for Policy & Government Affairs of Vietnam Veterans ofAmerica (VVA), claimed that his Government ‘can’ and ‘should’ offeradditional support to help Vietnam, particularly in detoxifying A gentOrange/dioxin and removing unexploded ordnance.
The meeting was hosted on the occasion of President Truong Tan Sang’sofficial visit to the US , which was made at the invitation ofPresident Barack Obama.-VNA
