Vietnamese students win five gold medals at Int’l Olympiad of Metropolises

Hanoi (VNA) – All eight Vietnamese students from Hanoi-AmsterdamHigh School for the Gifted have claimed medals, including five golds, onesilver, and two bronzes, at the fifth International Olympiad of Metropolises(IOM).

The competition, organised by the Mayor of Moscow, was held from December 16 –22 in an online format due to impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gold medals went to Nguyen Hoang Nam and Tran Quang Vinh in Physics, Nguyen DuyAnh and Nguyen Le Thao Anh in Chemistry, and Do Bach Khoa in Mathematics.

The silver medal went to Nguyen Duc Anh in Mathematics, while two bronze medalswere carried off by Nguyen Gia Bao and Nguyen Anh Quan in Informatics.

Besides, the Vietnam team won the silver cup and ranks in Top 5 best cities inthe category of blitz-contest.

The Olympiad of Metropolises is an international team competition, which isheld in Moscow every year at the initiative of the Mayor of Russia’s capital city.Its participants are 14-18 year old students, who live in the biggestmetropolises of the world.

The first Olympiad took place in 2016, drawing the participation of 173students from 22 cities.

A team of eight participants represents each city. They are to show theirknowledge of physics, chemistry, mathematics and informatics. The competitionconsists of a blitz-contest and two main rounds.

Last year, Vietnam achieved impressive results in their first timeparticipation in the fourth Olympiad of Metropolises, bagging three golds,three silvers, and two bronzes./.
