Vientiane (VNA) – The remains of 25 Vietnamese soldiers who diedduring wartime in Laos were repatriated from Oudomsay province, Laos, on June14.
The event was attended by Vice Political Commissar of Vietnam’s Military Zone 2and Head of the zone’s Steering Committee 1237 Pham Duc Duyen, and Governor ofOudomsay province Khamphieng Yachongva, among others.
This is the second repatriation conducted during the 2017-2018 dry season bythe Military Zone 2’s team for the search and repatriation of martyrs’ remainsin collaboration with the Special Working Committee of six northern provincesof Laos, including Oudomsay, Luang Prabang, Xayabouly, Phongsaly, Luang Namthaand Bokeo.
The remains were found in Pack U district (Luang Prabang province), and MuangNga district (Oudomsay province).
Personal belongings of the fallen soldiers were unearthed with the remains,including soles of shoes, water containers and cartridges.
A memorial and reburial seremony for thefallen heroes will be held at Tong Khao cemetery, Dien Bien Phu city, Dien Bienprovince, on June 15.
Earlier, nine sets of remains of Vietnamese soldiers were found and repatriatedfrom Oudomsay province in January.-VNA
