Beijing (VNA) – Director of the Institute for Vietnam Studies at the Zhengzhou University Prof. Yu Xiangdong has said that the state visit to China by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President To Lam is a strategic choice based on the stable development of the bilateral relations.
Yu emphasised that the visit holds significance. In the diplomatic practice of countries, the selection of a foreign nation for the first visit by a senior leader has symbolic significance.
Having studied Vietnam and the China-Vietnam relations for years, Yu said that the top leader’s visit firstly showed that Vietnam's socio-political development maintains a stable trend, and Party General Secretary and President To Lam and the CPV Central Committee continue to adhere to Ho Chi Minh's thought and inherit the political legacy left by late Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, leading Vietnam to continue following the path of socialism, promoting the cause of renewal and the process of modernisation.
Secondly, the friendly neighbourliness and cooperation between the two countries has a long history and a deep foundation, and the "comradely and brotherly" traditional friendship between China and Vietnam, which was built by President Mao Zedong and President Ho Chi Minh, has been strongly developed in the new situation.
Party General Secretary and State President To Lam chose Guangzhou, a place that holds great significance to the early stages of the revolutionary cause of China and Vietnam, to visit first showed the high regard he attaches to the precious friendship between the two Parties and people of China and Vietnam, the scholar said.
Thirdly, direct talks, in-depth exchanges, and joint planning between the leaders of the two Parties and countries will further promote the building of a China-Vietnam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, paving the way for extensive exchanges and practical cooperation in many fields and at all levels between the two countries, thus leading the two nations to advance together on the path of modernisation and socialism development, he added.
Yu believed that the Vietnamese leader's China visit is a strategic choice based on the stable development of the bilateral relations. It is one of the very important external activities of Vietnam in the second half of this year, demonstrating Vietnam's consistent stance and "bamboo diplomacy" policy. The trip benefits the noble cause of modernisation that the CPV is constantly promoting and is in conformity with the fundamental interests of the two countries and their people. It is also useful to maintaining and protecting peace, stability, development and prosperity of the region and the world./.
