Rome (VNA) – The first bachelors of the Vietnamese language of Ca'Foscari University in Venice city willgraduate in May this year, marking an important milestone in teaching andlearning the language in Italy.
The Vietnamese language department under the Departmentof Asian and North African Studies of the university was establishedin 2019, providing students with knowledge of history, literature, economics,geopolitics, art and all aspects of the Vietnamese culture. The university has themost complete Vietnamese learning programme in Italy.
The idea of a programme to teach Vietnamese in particular andVietnamese studies in general was initiated by Professor Marco Ceresa, Dean ofthe department, who said Vietnam as well as Southeast Asiaplays a very important role in culture and economy.
Associate Professor Richard Quang Anh Tran, who was taskedwith developing the Vietnamese language section said Venice, a gateway tothe exchange of civilizations, boasts a great potential for developingresearch programmes on Vietnamese studies.
Ceresa said the number of students registered to learnVietnamese remains stable, while Richard expressed his belief that through further cooperationwith universities in Vietnam, more and more Italian students will studyVthe ietnamese language and have a broader vision of the Southeast Asian nation’srich culture./.
