Seoul (VNA) -Vietnamese labourers in the Republic of Korea (RoK) were advised to return homewhen their labour contracts expire at a workshop in Incheon on July 16.
The workshop was held by Vietnam’s Ministry ofLabour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Embassy of Vietnam in the RoK.
The event was attended by Vietnamese DeputyAmbassador to the RoK Tran Anh Vu, Director of the Ministry’sCenter of Overseas Labour Ha Xuan Tung, Director of the RoK Human ResourceDevelopment Department Woo Bong Woo and about 300 Vietnamese labourers workingin the city and vicinity.
Addressing the event, Vu underlined fruitful labourcooperation between Vietnam and RoK based on the two nations’ memorandum ofunderstanding on the Employment Permit System programme signed in May, 2016.
He called on Vietnamese labourers in the RoK toobserve the regulations in their contracts, the host country’s laws and toreturn home when their contracts expire.
He also expressed his hope that the RoK’s Humanresource development Deparment and other organisations and enterprises willcontinue working with the Embassy in ensuring the legitimate rights ofVietnamese labourers in the country.
For his part, Woo Bong Woo said cooperation inlabour between Vietnam and RoK has contributed to the development of the twonations’ relationship, and acknowledged the contribution Vietnamese labourershave made to the nation’s economic development.
He also pledged to support Vietnamese labourersduring their stay in the RoK.
According to Tung, numerous job placementactivities have been held to help Vietnamese labourers who return home from theRoK.
During the event, several RoK employers werehonoured for their support for their Vietnamese workers, as were severalVietnamese labourers for their contributions to the local society.
Currently, the RoK is home to nearly 50,000Vietnamese workers. About 16,000 of them are working in the country on expiredlabour contracts.-VNA
