Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Italiancounterpart Giuseppe Conte co-chaired the third High-Level Dialogue onItaly-ASEAN Economic Relations in Hanoi on June 6, held during the latter’sofficial visit to Vietnam.
The event gathered over representatives of300 enterprises from Italy and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) and more than 150 Vietnamese businesses. It was also attended by DeputyPrime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung.
Addressing the event, PM Phuc spoke highlyof Italian enterprises’ confidence in Vietnam.
Emphasising the dialogue’s significance, hesaid that the presence of the Vietnamese Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministerat the event shows the Government’s support for cooperation of the ItalianGovernment as well as between Italian and ASEAN enterprises and Vietnamesepartners.
He expressed his hope that Italianbusinesses will choose Vietnam when looking east thanks to its own potentialand advantages.
The Vietnamese Government leader alsocalled for win-win cooperation between Italian, ASEAN and Vietnamesebusinesses.
Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerceand Industry Vu Tien Loc stated that this forum aims to create more businessopportunities between Italy and ASEAN member states.
According to him, the economic and traderelations between Italy and ASEAN countries, including Vietnam, are entering animportant development stage.
Italy, the third largest economy in theEuropean Union and the eighth in the world, is an important economic partner inthe EU, while ASEAN is an important geo-political and economic region of the EUin general and Italy in particular.
Former Prime Minister of Italy EnricoLetta, who is President of the Italy-Vietnam Association, stated that hiscountry always attaches importance to the Italy-Vietnam bilateral relations ofstrategic cooperation as well as the Italy-ASEAN multilateral relations, withVietnam serving as a strategic gateway for Italian businesses in SoutheastAsia.
This means that Italy will intensify tradepromotion projects and investment flows into Vietnam to use it as a springboardto increase Italian enterprises’ presence in the promising ASEAN market, headded.-VNA
