Vientiane (VNA) – Many Vietnamese families inVientiane have switched their regular work to wrapping and boiling squareglutinous rice cake to meet high demand ahead of the traditional Lunar New Yearfestival.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, member of a Vietnamese family inLaos, said she could wrap 200 square and cylindrical glutinous rice cakes perday but the supply is yet to meet the demand because the number of orders forbusiness partners and employees is huge, not to mention retail Vietnamese andLao consumers.

Thuy said Lao people are keen on glutinous food, especiallysquare glutinous rice cake. Each year on this occasion, her family consumes 2-3tonnes of glutinous rice but the supply remains insufficient.

This year, Ha Thi Kim Loi hired two Lao workers to wrapcakes which number over 100 per day.

According to her, most of the Vietnamese nationals buyglutinous rice cakes as gift for Lao fellows.

In high demand was also pork pie which is not only forfamily use but sent to their relatives abroad.-VNA
