anoi (VNA) – Deputy Minister of ForeignAffairs Pham Quang Hieu on July 29 thanked overseas Vietnamese for theirsupport for the COVID-19 combat at home.

In the thank-you letter, Hieu, who is also Chairman ofthe State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, said since the new COVID-19wave sprang up with new variants, authorities and people in localities acrossthe country, especially Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces, have madeefforts to contain the pandemic, press ahead with vaccinations and recover theeconomy.

Over the past time, Vietnamese expats have supportedthe pandemic fight through various forms such as providing medical equipment,food and financial support for pandemic-stricken localities, and sharingexperience in COVID-19 prevention and control, he said.

Since June 5, they have sent home more than 10.5billion VND (457,200 USD), he said, adding that nearly 30 Vietnameseorganisations and associations in France, the US and Canada, among others, havelaunched fund-raising campaigns to aid anti-pandemic efforts in the homeland.
 
VietBay – a group of Vietnamese in Bay Area, SanFrancisco, has so far this month presented nearly 10,000 gifts to poorlabourers in HCM City – the country’s biggest pandemic hotspot at present.

Such deeds have not only directly contributed to thepandemic fight in Vietnam but also demonstrated the patriotism, mutual support and great unity ofVietnamese, Hieu said, calling for more assistance from the community in thetime ahead.

The committee will coordinate withrelevant agencies and units to organise online workshops to pool Vietnameseexpats’ opinions on COVID-19 containment and economic development, according tothe official./.
