Hanoi (VNA) – About 50 Vietnamese diplomats were provided with training ondelivering coordinated quality services to women migrant workers subject toviolence in Hanoi on October 15.
The trainingworkshop was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in partnershipwith the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women)and the International Labour Organisation.
This was thesecond time the Training Workshop for Diplomats has been held under the programme #SafeandFair: Realising women migrant workers' rights andopportunities in the ASEAN region, a part of the #SpotlightInitiative toeliminate violence against women and girls.
In his openingremark, Deputy Director General of the MoFA’s Department of Consular Affairs DoHoang Tung said it is an important capacity-building event that helps enhancethe effectiveness of the protection of Vietnamese citizens overseas, particularlyvulnerable people like women migrant workers.
Protection ofthe legitimate rights and interests of migrants is the primary goal andpriority in Vietnam's international migration management policy, which wasunderscored in the country’s implementation plan for the Global Compact forSafe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), he said.
ElisaFernandez Saenz, Representative of UN Women Vietnam, said that the workshop provides all necessaryinformation about the risks of violence, abuse, the role of women as well asbarriers to them when accessing to support services, thereby helping diplomats –the first responders to fulfil their challenging tasks in serving citizens./.
