Vietnam Women Award honours 18 units, individuals

– The Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) Central Committee on October17 presented the Vietnam Women Award 2017 to eight units and 10 individualswith outstanding contributions to social development.

The honoured units include women teams of theEmergency Department of Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi-AmsterdamHigh School, Thai Hung JSC, and Women’s Union of Ba Che district of Quang Ninhprovince.

Meanwhile, the 10 outstanding individualsinclude Lieutenant Colonel Bui Thi Ha from the Naval Technical Institute, DoThuy Ha from Hanoi Blind Association, Nguyen Thi Hue from a lemon growingcooperative in Can Tho city, Nguyen Thi Lieu from Duc Tri junior high school, andNguyen Ngoc Mai, a worker of Vincem Hoang Thach cement company.

Addressingthe event, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue affirmed that the Party andState always create favourable conditions for women to develop, adding that administrationsat all levels and sectors have paid due attention to gender quality and women’sprogress.

Heasked the WVU Central Committee to continue promoting its role in protectingand ensuring legitimate rights and interests of women, while increasing communicationcampaigns to raise public awareness of the need to implement women-related policies.

TheDeputy PM also requested agencies, ministries, sectors and localities to ensureadequate ratio of women’s participation in their organisations.

Meanwhile,VWU President Nguyen Thi Thu Ha underlined Vietnamese women’s tradition ofpatriotism and devotion.

Inthe current period of international integration, Vietnamese women have continuedtheir important role in promoting socio-economic development as well as ensuringsecurity-political of the country.

Thewomen honoured with the Vietnam Women Award 2017 have inspired millions of othersacross the country to work harder and create for the nation’s sustainabledevelopment.

Thesame day, the VWU also organised Women Innovation Day with the themed  “Women engaging in natural disaster riskreduction and climate change response”. The organising board presentedcertificates of merit to 22 project authors, while funding three most feasibleinitiatives.

Fifteenfemale students who recorded the highest scores in the university entranceexamination 2017 and a female student winning a silver medal at theInternational Biology Olympiad 2017 also received certificates of merit.

Onthe occasion, the VWU also raised funds to support flood-hit residents innorthern mountainous provinces.-VNA

The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu on October 21 signed a cooperation agreement with Uiseong county, Gyeongsangbuk-do province of the Republic of Korea (RoK) on sending local labourers to the RoK to work seasonally under the form of locality-to-locality collaboration between the two countries in the 2023 - 2027 period.
