Hanoi (VNA) - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka G. Weerasinghe has expressed his belief that Vietnam will maintain its political stability and social order, record socio-economic achievements, and promote its role and position in the region and the world.

In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) on State President To Lam’s election as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, Weerasinghe held that the leader will continue leading the Party, founded by late President Ho Chi Minh, to take firm steps in the cause of socialism building.

Highlighting specific targets set at the 13th National Party Congress, the Sri Lanka leader said late Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s ideas and instructions will shed light on the path towards socialism in Vietnam.

He also hailed Vietnam as one of the fastest growing countries in Asia, with living standards having been improved over the past years.

Vietnam’s priorities in its foreign policy are very scientific and logical, proving themselves as a reasonable approach, Weerasinghe said, referring to Lam’s inauguration speech on August 3.

Besides, Vietnam would continue its priorities to its neighbours, strategic and comprehensive partners, and traditional friends, he continued, expressing his belief that with the approach, the country will consolidate the political trust, common interests, and cooperation with its partners, while contributing to peace and stability in the region and the world.

Highlighting the Southeast Asian nation’s determination in the fight against corruption, Weerasinghe said the members of the international communist movement are delighted to know that the country will continue the relentless efforts, with no off-limits zones and no exceptions./.
