Vietnam wants to contribute to the process of peace, reconciliation and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula in a positive and responsible manner, said the Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam wants to contributeto the process of peace, reconciliation and denuclearization on the KoreanPeninsula in a positive and responsible manner, said the Foreign Ministry’sspokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang.

“As a country having undergone wars, Vietnam and itspeople have understood better and treasured the value of peace more than anyoneelse, hence Vietnam desires and is trying its best to make contributions to theprocess of peace, reconciliation and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula,”Hang told reporters at the International Media Centre (IMC).

The selection of Vietnam as the host of the secondDPRK-USA Summit showed the trust of the two nations and the internationalcommunity in Vietnam as well as its improved position and role in the regionand the world, she stressed.

Vietnam considers the hosting of the second DPRK-USASummit as a golden chance to promote Vietnam’s foreign policy, development andreform achievements, as well as its image as a friendly country, a safedestination and a reliable partner with a lot of potential for economic,investment and tourism cooperation, the spokeswoman said.

Regarding the organization of the second DPRK-USASummit, Hang said Vietnam also studied Singapore’s experiences in hosting thefirst event, but more importantly Vietnam has its own experiences in holdingmajor international events such as the APEC Year 2017 with the participation of21 economies, including world powers, and the World Economic Forum on ASEAN 2018(WEF ASEAN 2018).

“We have valuable experiences. We are confident in ourability and especially, we have the will, determination and great efforts –that are the national strength and the good tradition of Vietnam,” she emphasized.

However, Vietnam has also faced a wide range ofchallenges in terms of preparation time and demands for the summit such as thelocations, infrastructure, logistic and reception services, security and thepress in conformity with the request of both DPRK and the US, Hang said.

Despite these challenges, the preparations for thesummit were well done and the related parties and reporters have highlyevaluated the organization work and Vietnam’s efforts to accomplish all necessaryjobs, especially in ensuring security, just after a short time, the spokeswomannoted.

Singapore had two months to prepare for the firstsummit, but Vietnam had only two weeks to make everything ready for the secondmeeting, she elaborated.-VNA
