Vietnam wants IMF’s support in economic restructuring

The Vietnamese Government hopes to receive further policy evaluations and consultancies from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to restructure the economy, creating momentum for growth, said Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese Government hopes to receive further policyevaluations and consultancies from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) torestructure the economy, creating momentum for growth, said Deputy PrimeMinister Vuong Dinh Hue.

Hostinga reception for the IMF’s “Article IV consultations” delegation in Hanoi onMarch 29, Hue affirmed that Vietnam consistently works to stabilise themacro-economy, push up economic shake-up, improve the business climate, andpromote global economic integration.

In that spirit, the Government will order relevant ministries and branches toenhance cooperative ties with the IMF, hoping that the institution will givemore support in training and policy consultations to them.

AlexMourmouras, who led the IMF’s delegation, said that Vietnam gained fruitfuleconomic achievements in 2017. He gave an upbeat outlook for the SoutheastAsia’s economy this year, in which the GDP is forecast to grow 6.6 percent whileinflation rate is curbed below 4 percent thanks to improved businessenvironment and contributions from the foreign business bloc.

He suggested that the Vietnamese Government modernise monetary policy andmechanism, better off financial risk management and work to facilitate thedevelopment of the private sector.

Mourmourasand the “Article IV consultations” delegation are working with the stateorganisations, commercial banks and private companies to give an overallevaluation on Vietnam’s macro-economy and consultations to the Government.

This has been an annual activity of the delegation since 1993.-VNA
