The article highlighted both sides’ agreement tomaintain existing cooperation mechanisms and look forward to developing abilateral legal framework dealing with safeguarding security and socialorder through the creation of such agreements as the one on extraditionand transfer of sentenced persons, a mutual legal assistance agreement,and the other on the combat against money laundering.

Vietnam and the US agreed to intensify the sharing of information andexperience in preventing crimes and investigating specific cases,coordinate to ensure safety for each country’s citizens and enterprisesin the other, and collaborate in staff training.

Thearticle commented that the cooperation in security between Vietnam andthe US is being reinforced and that the US is considering Vietnam as akey partner in the implementation of its rebalancing strategy towardsthe Asia-Pacific.

Mentioning the dispute in the EastSea between China and ASEAN countries, the article stressed that the UScongressmen have always reaffirmed their support for solving disputesby peaceful means on the basis of international law, especially the 1982United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Declaration on theConduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), as well as working towardsthe formation of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (CoC).-VNA
