Hanoi (VNA) – Ambassador Nguyen Tam Chien, President of theVietnam-US Society hosted a reception in Hanoi on March 18 for a delegationfrom the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the US (VFW), who are on a Vietnam visitfrom March 15-23.
Chien briefed thedelegation on Vietnam’s current situation, its foreign policy, Vietnam-USrelations, as well as activities conducted by the Vietnam Union of FriendshipOrganisations (VUFO) and the Vietnam-US Society (VUS) in promotingpeople-to-people exchanges.
VFW Junior ViceCommander-in-Chief Hal Roesch said that the delegation’s visit aims at studyingthe two countries’ cooperation in the search for US servicemen who went missingin action (MIA) during the war in Vietnam,
At the reception,delegation members showed interest in economic collaboration between the twocountries’ organisations and veterans, as well as measures to tackle post-warconsequences in Vietnam such as bombs and mines, unexploded ordnance, and AgentOrange.
Chien affirmed thatthe VUFO and VUS will create all favourable conditions for the delegation tohelp it have an effective visit to Vietnam.
VFW is a nonprofitveterans service organisation comprised of eligible veterans and militaryservice members from the active, guard and reserve forces. Established in 1899,the organisation now has 1.7 million members with nearly 8,400 branches aroundthe world.
The VFW set uprelations with the VUS in 1994, and sends a delegation to Vietnam almost everyyear to learn about the country’s situation and the bilateral relations,especially in the settlement of MIA-related issue.-VNA
