Hanoi (VNA) – Defence cooperation between Vietnam and the US would bedeveloping further, after having reaped new and practical progress, said ViceChairman of the National Assembly Do Ba Ty.
Ty made the statement at his recent reception for a delegation from thevisiting US House Armed Services Committee, led by William MacclellanThornberry, Chairman of the committee.
He hoped that the US will continue supporting Vietnam in search and rescue,mine clearance and Orange/Dioxin decontamination.
Vietnam will consistently implement its foreign policy of independence,self-reliance and multilateralisation and integration and priotises relationswith foreign countries, including the US, he told his guests.
Vietnam wants to promote and deepen the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership ina more practical and effective manner, making contributions to maintainingpeace, stability, and prosperity in the region and in the world, Ty stressed.
For his part, William Macclellan Thornberry lauded Vietnam’s achievementsduring the socio-economic development process and affirmed that the US will bemore active in search and rescue, mine clearance and Orange/Dioxin detoxificationin Vietnam.
Earlier, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Phuong Nam, Deputy Chief of theGeneral Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army also welcomed the delegation.
Nam and his guests expressed their delight over the sound developing multi-facetedrelations between the two countries with defence ties touted as the highlight.
Theysaid that Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s official visit to the US will openup opportunities for both sides to consolidate and deepen bilateralcooperation.
Nam said that the Vietnamese Ministry of Defence always treasures defencecooperation with the US Department of Defence on the basis of the bilateral comprehensivepartnership, a ministry Memorandum of Understanding on promoting bilateraldefence relations and a statement on joint vision on defence relations.-VNA
