During the visit, the Deputy FM met President of the Chamberof Representatives of Uruguay Jose Carlos Mahia, and held talks with ViceMinister of External Relations Jose Luis Cancela.
Both sides also signed a memorandum of understanding oncooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and the UruguayanDiplomatic Institute.
During meetings and talks, the Uruguayan side considered Vietnamas one of the leading important partners in Asia-Pacific.
Host and guest underscored the need to regularly maintain thepolitical consultation mechanism to deepen practical and effective ties. Theyreviewed the implementation of important cooperation documents, thus creating afavourable legal framework for bilateral partnership.
Discussing specific steps to reinforce economic, trade,investment ties in agriculture, animal husbandry, agro-fisheries processing andbiotechnology, they agreed to soon convene a meeting of the Joint Committee onEconomic-Trade-Investment Cooperation as well as help the two countries’ businessesaccess respective market and boost joint work across culture, training, tourismand sport on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties(August 11, 1993 – August 11, 2018).
On regional and global issues of shared concern, the twosides vowed to continue promoting ties between ASEAN and the Common Market ofSouth America (MERCOSUR), and other inter-regional cooperation mechanisms.
They shared stance on supporting the settlement ofsovereignty disputes via dialogues and peaceful means, in line withinternational law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law ofthe Sea.-VNA
